The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unexpectedly thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. This development marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

The Ogun PDP chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, made the endorsement known during the inauguration of the campaign council for the party’s candidate in the Remo Federal Constituency bye-election. Hon. Bolarinwa Oluwole was unveiled as the party’s candidate for the August 16 bye-election.

Tella explained that the South West PDP is unanimously in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid. He described President Tinubu as the “father of the nation,” citing this as a reason for the party’s decision to rally behind him.

According to Gistmate Media reports, T
the Ogun PDP chairman urged party faithful to turn out in large numbers to participate in the bye-election and to resist any form of intimidation or harassment. He emphasized the importance of a peaceful and credible electoral process.

The Remo Federal Constituency bye-election was necessitated by the death of Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, in January. The PDP is determined to secure a victory in the constituency.

The endorsement of President Tinubu by the Ogun PDP may have significant implications for the state’s politics. It remains to be seen how this development will affect the party’s dynamics and the overall political landscape in the state.

“We are not going to submit to any harassment or intimidation on Saturday. The election is a win win for the party. This constituency is our stronghold and this was evident in the outcome of the 2023 election. Our party defeated the seating governor in his ward. They will record defeat as far as this election is concerned,” he said.

National Vice Chairman, Hon Kamorudeen Ajisafe, before presenting the party’s flag to Oluwole, said the Southwest Zonal Secretariat has momentarily been moved to Ogun State for the purpose of mobilising support the party candidate in the bye-election.

The governorship candidate of the party in 2023, Hon Oladipupo Adebutu, said the party is supporting Tinubu’s reelection to ensure that the bye election is free, fair and credible.
